Florence Mine Fabric, Egremont, Cumbria 2012

As part of the refurbishment of Florence Mine, workshops were devised to increase interest in the space and to encourage the community to take an active part in its development. Textile artist Rachel Kelly, of Interactive Wallpaper, created a fabric design that is used for upholstery at Florence. The inspiration for the fabric came from the map archive and was developed through community workshops. The fabric was then be used for upholstering chairs, and bar in Florence during community workshops.

2010 Crafts Council Spark Plug Curators Award was awarded to Cathy Newbery to develop the Upcycle project, with artists and makers reusing materials to create inspiring new work.
